The HP Smart Array P411 is HP's external connect only, PCI Express 2.0 (PCIe) Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) RAID controller. The low profile, half height card has 8 ports and utilizes DDR2-533memory. The P411 is ideal for RAID 0, 1, 1+0, 5, 5+0 and can be upgraded with Flash Backed Write Cache (FBWC) and Smart Array Advanced Pack license key for RAID 6 (ADG) & 6+0.





What is Flash Backed Write Cache (FBWC)?



- Battery-Less Cache for Smart Array Controllers

- Uses flash technology for write cache instead of battery

--> BBWC uses a battery to maintain the data by keeping the memory in self refresh to maintain the data

--> FBWC uses a super cap and flash memory to move the contents of standard memory to flash and maintain the data in flash until the power is restored

- Increases cache capacity to 1GB for HP Smart Array Controllers

Increase cache data retention capabilities in excess of existing battery backed write cache (BBWC)

--> Since the contents of memory are written to flash, the 48 hour limit for BBWC is eliminated in the FBWC and the data will be posted to the hard drive on the next power up

- Both BBWC and FBWC use standard memory for the run time solution, so the performance difference is minimal overall, but for certain applications you can see a performance gain with FBWC
